Don't look at it too long, feet are weird!

What is it??

This style of massage is based on the Eastern understanding of the way energy moves through the body through pathways known as nadis. Manipulating certain pressure points throughout the body is believed to culture a healthy energy system that maintains the overall health of the person.

What are the benefits of Siddha massage?

Siddha massage is said to stimulate lymphatic drainage. This helps the body to remove toxins and maintain elasticity in the muscle fibres. It is an excellent therapy for yoga practitioners as it keeps the body supple for asana practice.

Massage inspires a positive mood and enhances meditation, by releasing tension and allowing the body to become comfortable when sitting or standing for extended periods.

The release of tension allows for the free flow of energy in the body and gives the sensation that any blockages have been cleared.

Why do you use the feet?

Ajna Chakra go

Using the feet allows for a deeper pressure with less effort, With enough training, it is possible to work very precisely with the feet and deliver a more effective massage in less time, which also avoids causing repetitive strain injury to the practitioner. It is possible to perform the massage with the hands in appropriate cases.

Ayurveda is another Eastern health science that places a lot of importance on the feet, as in reflexology. It is believed that much information travels through the soles of the feet, so it cultivates an energetic exchange or communication between the person giving and the person receiving the massage.

When training in this style, there was much importance placed on remaining very present while giving the massage, seeing the person before you as a sacred element of the Divine.

*jumping up and down* is the pressure okay for you?

How can I experience it?

While training to teach yoga in India, Caitlin also learnt this style of massage, passed down to Guru Bhagavan Shanmukha by his grandparents. You can book 30-60 minute sessions with her at the studio or request an appointment at your home. Caitlin often offers the massage during retreats, and you can book a workshop to learn how to give the Siddha walking massage - especially cool for couples who practise together! Book it here!
